This sculpture is between the Reflecting Pool and the Vietnam Wall, honoring the 11,000+ women who served in the military during the Vietnam War. The artist, Glenna Goodacre, was there for the unveiling on Veteran's Day, November 11, 1993. At the dedication ceremony she said, "My desire to create a lasting tribute to the American woman serving in Vietnam is founded upon my deep respect for each of them, and my heartfelt prayer for their 'healing and hope'. I have been humbled by the enormity of such a task yet incredibly honored by the overwhelming gratitude of the veterans. The emphasis of this tribute is centered on their emotions: their compassion, their anxiety, their fatigue, and above all, their dedication."

Check Out the Urban Rain Gardens
Did you know that a rain garden is designed to capture polluted storm water runoff from the surrounding roads and sidewalks? They reduce flooding, reduce pollutants in waterways, and create habitats for butterflies. Job well done to the Golden Triangle Business Improvement District, the DC Environment Department, and the Environmental Protection Agency.
The Golden Triangle is also sponsoring a landscape design competition. This is one of the contenders, "Phosphorescence"; the flashy Christmas ornaments are a nice touch.

The Mansion on O Street
I happened to run by The Mansion this morning...oh the memories. I almost did an internship there one summer while in college. My sister, Laura, was kind enough to arrange the opportunity--but it was not for me. One highlight while I was there interviewing, I met Kitty Kelley. They are open to the public for Sunday brunch; during the holidays they have an open house sale.
Great Running Weather
This weekend was perfect weather for runners--cloudy, not too hot, and an occasional misting of rain.
