Carnivore Update 2: 80/20 Rule Isn't Going to Work

For some reason, it has been difficult for me to stay 100% carnivore. Of course, I made the concession for coconut oil early on...but that led to allowing coconut butter/manna, which led to some sweet potatoes, onions, tomato sauce, and stevia. I should not have been surprised--but I was!!--when I felt the beginnings of a yeast infection. So, clearly I cannot just add any old starches or carbs--this is exactly why I gave them up. It is a good reminder and a incentive to commit 100% to the carnivore diet. I've been having a variety of protein; tried mussels from Whole Foods that were OK. Besides the usual sardines, smoked oysters, smoked salmon, ground beef, eggs, we had a really yummy ground sirloin, beef hot dogs, and roasted chicken from Wagshals. The hanger steak, brisket, and fully cooked shredded beef (nothing added) from Wellness Meats were all very tasty too.

No changes to report as far as weight or feeling amazing because I have NOT been consistent. Hopefully, we'll see some changes next week with my renewed efforts.

Walking Berlin

We explored the wonderful city of Berlin, Germany, last week while I was on a mission trip for work. The city has a painful past, but a vibrant vibe. The weather was ideal (60s and then into the 80s). It is very walkable and there is so much to see, parks to enjoy, and tons of cafes and shops. I highly recommend it.

English is not everywhere, as you might expect from a capital city or major European city. I was happy that our hotel (Radisson) had extensive allergy information at their restaurants--very helpful! Steven tried many pastries and treats. I ate more than my weight in pork, liverwurst, and chicken. So good.

ED#29 President's Day

Although a holiday, I spent the entire day at work getting things done. It was very productive. For dinner, I had leftover chicken drumsticks, shrimp, broccoli, celery, Romaine, avocado, tons of coconut, and introduced cauliflower. I have really missed cauliflower...so good when it is roasted. I ate a ton more broccoli and cauliflower off the roasting pan, not pictured. I am considering rotating on and off of the coconut; I eat a LOT of it and I would really hate to have to give it up due to an allergic reaction. It is definitely one of my fat-dense favorites!

ED#28 Chicken and Cumberbatch--YUM

Steven bought a bunch of chicken drumsticks--mega bulk! They were really good. I had class all day; it was nice to come home and relax. We watched, "Dr. Strange"; it is hard not to love anything with Mr. Benedict Cumberbatch. Although, it would have been slightly better had he just used his innate accent. :)

ED#22 Whipping Wind

The wind was unbearable today. It tore the roof off of the shed in the backyard. Dinner was leftover chicken wings, green beans with garlic, cabbage, avocado, Romaine. Not sure about the garlic...I had some puffy eyes, but it may be due to not sleeping as well.

Elimination Diet Day 15 and Running Nowhere

I introduced vanilla bean this morning in my coffee. I couldn't really taste it and it was a hassle to scrape and put in. Vanilla extract is not allowed, as most include alcohol. The powered vanilla contains maltodextrin. I am going to order the Bulletproof vanilla max powder, which only contains Madagascar vanilla beans.

The morning started cool but climbed into the low-60s. I'm hoping to enjoy a nice long run outside tomorrow. Dinner: chicken wings, lettuce, cabbage, beans. I had a reaction soon after dinner, I think because I ate too much. Most people get tired of eating the same thing; I must not have that gene. I can eat it until it is gone. I need to buy less and cook less. This will set me up for success, with no temptations. I ate more cabbage raw, which is what sunk me, I think.

I can't wait to try lamb this week...probably on Wednesday.

Elimination Diet Day 9 and Running - Chicken!

I am thankful for a fairly normal feeling day. I'm trying to talk myself into liking my coffee/coconut milk/cinnamon brew a little more each day. Super busy day at work. Steven went on another shopping spree for me--that's twice within the last 8 days, so sweet. His support means the world to me.

Before dinner, my stomach felt a bit off...but I had to try the chicken. Eating didn't really make me feel any better and I  wasn't surprised when I had a small reaction just before bed. I cannot blame the chicken wings. They were so good.
