Kennedy Center

Another beautiful day for a run in DC. The Potomac was bustling with the annual Charlie Butt Sculler's Head of the Potomac Regatta. Conversely, the Head of States side of the Kennedy Center was very quiet.

Hains Point

Perfect fall weather, with some clouds and a nice breeze. Enjoyed a long run to/from Hains Point in East Potomac Park. The 300-plus acre peninsula is located between the Potomac River and the Washington Channel. There is a golf course, mini-golf course, tennis center, outdoor pool, playground, picnic areas, and 320 free parking spaces. This is definitely a Washington gem.

Lunchtime Run on Capital Crescent Trail

Gorgeous weather and little traffic on the Capital Crescent Trail. I enjoyed a nice, relaxing run.
You can see the Key Bridge and Washington Monument in the distance.

Hard to believe I am in the middle of a major city.

The Society of the Cincinnati on Massachusetts Avenue

I varied my route today. I bet you cannot guess the name of the oldest patriotic organization?

From their Web site: "The Society of the Cincinnati is the nation's oldest patriotic organization, founded in 1783 by officers of the Continental Army and their French counterparts who served together in the American Revolution. Its mission is to promote knowledge and appreciation of the achievement of American independence and to foster fellowship among its members. Now a nonprofit educational organization devoted to the principles and ideals of its founders, the modern Society maintains its headquarters, library, and museum at Anderson House in Washington, D.C."

Gorgeous Weather and Scenery on Massachusetts Avenue

This morning, it was 55 degrees out--fantastic fall weather! On my way home, it was high 60s--delightful. I took a different route home; I ran Mass Ave from downtown to Glover Park (2 miles). According to RunKeeper, this route is more hilly than going through Georgetown. I believe it and felt it.

Later, Lighter, Faster...and a Georgetown Cupcake!

I left the house at a more reasonable hour this morning and had a much quicker run. Although the summer humidity is back in DC this week, it still was an enjoyable commute. Check out the cupcake below...courtesy of Georgetown Cupcake. (The decoration is customized for a work event.)

Early, Dark, and Slow

I left the house a little earlier today and it was so DARK! I am not a fan of running without daylight. My time suffered--not because of the moon, but because it was so early.

DC Triathlon Today

Today was the Nation's Triathlon. Extra kudos for braving a swim in the Potomac River. I ran too late to catch any of the real action.

Check out my run!

Peloton up 35th Street

I would guess that there were at least 30 bicyclists; my picture below does not do the pack justice.

Much easier run than yesterday for two reasons: (1) I stayed vertical the entire time. (2) At 9am, the temperature was 70ish with a nice breeze. Thankfully, after the first half-mile, endorphins masked the pain in my bruised right knee. Check out my RunKeeper route!

Capital Crescent Trail Run

Great Sunday run through Georgetown and along the Capital Crescent Trail.
Check out my RunKeeper route.

Hard to see, but there were a ton of paddle boards and people hanging out at the Three Sisters.

Wipe Out on M Street

If you saw a woman in bright neon yellow shorts and a white top suddenly flail and superman across the sidewalk near Thunder Burger... it was me! It had been awhile since my last fall; I was overdue. I heard some nice pedestrians--the very ones I was trying to sprint around before tripping over a brick--ask if I was OK. I quickly said, I'm fine, and moved on as quickly as possible. All I really cared about was that my iPhone survived the crash. Yay! iPhone is fine.
