Elimination Diet Day 3 and Running

It is pretty disappointing to be following the letter of the law with this diet and still have a reaction. I realize it may be part of the detox process, but it is hard to remain focused on the end goal. Last night after dinner, my stomach was gurgling like there was no tomorrow. This morning, the reaction was hard and swift. Additionally, my stomach was upset and I was not sure I had the energy to run to work.

I ran anyways.

Minor victory: I went to 7-Eleven for "free coffee Wednesday" and got a small black coffee. I put my own coconut milk and cinnamon in. I wasn't really tempted by the latte machine. Overall, the coffee was so-so. I drank it for the caffeine.

For dinner: shrimp, coconut oil, turkey burger, avocado, and celery. For dessert, coconut manna--not too much, in case this is the culprit.

Although I dragged, it was nice to be outside. The picture is of the Key Bridge on my morning route. The afternoon run was much better and the 60-degree weather totally helped.

Running in a Sauna

Washington, DC, has been hot and humid. My pace is definitely slower and early morning runs are much better than the afternoon drudgery of commuting home. The following are shots taken en route all over DC. Last week, we had some crazy thunderstorms that wreaked havoc on many trees; check out the damage below on 17th Street NW.

President Obama at the Georgetown Waterfront

Kudos to the PR people for choosing Key Bridge as a backdrop for President Obama's speech regarding fixing the nation's bridges. He spoke from Georgetown's Waterfront Park yesterday at 2:20 p.m. Although I couldn't make the trek in the middle of the day, my fantastic daughter--in the name of this blog--went down in the unbearable heat and humidity to snap a few pictures. Unfortunately, security was extremely tight and the area was closed off to the public; Julia tried every which way to get through with no luck. Thank you, Julia!

Galaxy S4 Performs Properly in Polar Temps

Potomac River near Key Bridge
Washington, D.C., has endured extremely cold temperatures this past week with no end in sight. Best news for me--the single-digit morning runs have not affected the performance of my Galaxy S4 in the least!

The Potomac River is not completely frozen. Few people were out this morning in the 20+ degree weather (felt like a heat wave); we had a few snow flurries this afternoon too. I'm ready for spring.

Lunchtime Run on Capital Crescent Trail

Gorgeous weather and little traffic on the Capital Crescent Trail. I enjoyed a nice, relaxing run.
You can see the Key Bridge and Washington Monument in the distance.

Hard to believe I am in the middle of a major city.

Crew Teams on the Potomac River

A sure sign that spring is just around the corner...crew teams are practicing on the water. Although the temperature was advertised at 48 degrees, it felt more like 38 with the wind.
