Elimination Diet Day 8 and Running--Snow!

Today, it felt like I was hit by a mack truck. After the small reaction last night, everything was pretty close to normal this morning. I was surprised. However, I had a really hard time getting out the door. I did a short dreadmill session. At work, time actually flew by, but I really felt terrible. Even those cute, little manzanilla olives didn't help.

For dinner, I added... CABBAGE! Purely for practical reasons (2 turkey burgers leftover from last night), the chicken will have to wait. I ate the same old turkey burgers, lettuce, cabbage, and avocado. I had fresh coconut, cinnamon, coconut oil, coconut flour for dessert.

Any suggestions for the sweet cravings? I thought my taste buds would get used to the coffee/coconut milk taste, but it just isn't happening.

It snowed overnight--just the perfect amount, with gorgeous scenery abounding and dry sidewalks.

Snow to Summer

Just last week, we had one to three inches during the morning rush hour. This week, it has been in the 80s! This is typical DC--the master of extremes. The pictures include a tree in the neighborhood, the Lincoln Memorial, the World War II Memorial, and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

Running in Glover Park

We think our neighborhood is AWESOME--and The Washington Post agrees! They wrote a wonderful article highlighting the perks and featuring quotes from our neighbors.

Melt the Snowbear!

Have you seen this snowbear on R Street, NW? Very cute--but I am desperately hoping that we will get up to 40 degrees today and that the dang bear will melt along with all the icy sidewalks and alleys. If you haven't heard, they are predicting below freezing temperatures for the next four days and a dusting to one inch tomorrow morning during rush hour. Enough snow! The normal temperature for end of February is 50 degrees...hard to believe these days.

More Snow...Really?!

A snowy run this morning, with predictions between 1 - 3 inches. The meteorologist said it wouldn't stick--looks like it is sticking to me. :(

Calm before Winter Storm Wiley!

Georgetown, M Street
This morning, my five-mile run was delightful, sunny and in the low 40s. However, Washington, DC, has not seen the last of winter quite yet. We are currently under a winter storm warning… the rain will start around 7pm, turning to sleet, wintery mix, and then snow. Accumulation was originally four to six inches, but has been reduced to three to five. Ugh. I need to be at work tomorrow for a slew of meetings; it will be an ugly, cold commute for sure (regardless of actual inches that stick).

Now You See It, Now You Don't!

It started snowing like a winter wonderland this morning and didn't let up until 2pm--big, white fluffy snowflakes. Then, by 5pm, there was absolutely no proof that it ever snowed. OK, there is still some snow on our back deck, but it is amazing that the branches and roads are completely clear.

And...She's Down!

How lame. I did not slip on the ice. I tripped on an uneven sidewalk. Even though DC enjoyed temperatures into the upper 50s yesterday, there is still quite a bit of ice and snow on my route.
This morning, we are supposed to get some rain and rising temperatures ths afternoon into the high 50s again. Yay! Bye-bye snow!

Ten Inches of Snow with More on the Way

Wisconsin Avenue
The meteorologists were right on the money with this storm. Around our neighborhood, we had at least 10 inches. It stopped snowing mid-morning and turned into rain, which helped clear the roads and sidewalks. After a brief dry-spell, a wintery mix has started to fall (4pm). No run for me today. Kudos to Bruegger's for being open this morning at 7:30am. I was shocked and extremely grateful. We are supposed to get another one to three inches tonight.

Galaxy S4 Performs Properly in Polar Temps

Potomac River near Key Bridge
Washington, D.C., has endured extremely cold temperatures this past week with no end in sight. Best news for me--the single-digit morning runs have not affected the performance of my Galaxy S4 in the least!

The Potomac River is not completely frozen. Few people were out this morning in the 20+ degree weather (felt like a heat wave); we had a few snow flurries this afternoon too. I'm ready for spring.

Happy Christmas Eve! I've Rejoined the Land of the Living

Let it snow!
It has been awhile and that is because… I haven't been running in almost a week!  What began as a severe sore throat turned into double ear infections with sinusitis. First trip to doctor was too early to detect anything and then a return visit confirmed full-blown infections. Anyway, GOOD NEWS--I'm feeling empowered enough by the antibiotics to try running again. It is cool here today--I missed killer 65 degree weather over the weekend--but it only adds to the feeling of Christmas. Best wishes to you and yours.

Snow, Freezing Rain, Sleet, Rain

Snow day! Although there was very little accumulation in D.C., many schools are closed or on a two-hour delay schedule. Julia is home! I did venture outside for my coffee and there is quite a bit of ice and a steady drizzle of rain. I didn't see any major limbs down due to the ice. There was one light flashing at Tunlaw and Calvert, but otherwise no obvious signs of power outages.
Check out the ice!

Still Snowing!

The meteorologists got it right! We woke up to two inches on the ground and it is still snowing. No delay from the federal government, probably because most schools are on spring break anyway.
