Crew Teams on the Potomac River

A sure sign that spring is just around the corner...crew teams are practicing on the water. Although the temperature was advertised at 48 degrees, it felt more like 38 with the wind.

Glen Echo Run!

Glen Echo,MD, is so quaint. I may have crossed into Cabin John, as well. Check out the one-lane bridge! The weather was perfect--50 degrees--for a short, three-mile run.

Long Periods of Sitting Increases Health Risks

A study by Kansas State University reveals that the longer you sit, the higher your risks for chronic diseases. A sample of 63,048 Australian men, aged 45-65, participated in the study. "The prevalence of chronic diseases climbed up as the number of hours the participants spent sat down increased. Those who sat for more than six hours a day were at a particularly high risk of diabetes."

One caveat the researchers pointed out: They were not positive if the amount of sitting caused chronic disease, or if those with chronic diseases were more likely to sit for longer periods.

Middle of M Street

Yay, the sun eventually came out. However, it was still 38 degrees and very windy for the run home.

Pennsylvania Ave Sunrise

These pictures were taken this morning, looking up Pennsylvania Avenue. It was a nice change from the usual pitch black run. Although the days are getting longer, leaving for work a half-hour later is what really did the trick.
