Nothing Beats Running in the Fall

The weather in DC has not disappointed this fall. Generally, the mornings have been hovering around 50, with the afternoons elevating to mid-60s. I could run all day!

Kudos to the National Park Services; the expiration on the liquid soap in the bathroom cracks me up. The bathroom near the Washington Monument is kept extremely clean; I really do appreciate that (and the fresh soap). Thank you!

Falling in Love with Central Park NYC

If I could run every day in Central Park, I would. I LOVE it. The first time, I was a bit afraid that I would get lost. The second time, I stayed to a pretty small loop and ran around it three times. On the third day, I was feeling a bit tired and was debating about going for a run. However, I dragged myself just a few blocks to the park entrance and seeing all of the other runners and bikers--it was so inspiring--I had to run! It is like the feeling you get when you're in a race; everyone in the pack is running, so you up your pace and pass as many as you can. Normally, I prefer to run alone; however, I can see why people may prefer to run with a group. Today, I ran a six-mile route and I didn't want to leave.

Watching Redskins Run Buffalo Out of Town 21 to 16

This was a once in a lifetime event for us and it was so much fun. Thanks to shows like "Hard Knocks" (HBO) and "Last Chance U" (Netflix), I have come to appreciate, understand, and even enjoy watching the game. Steven's company received tickets from ESPN, which included pregame food, time on the ESPN broadcast stage, walking on the field, and watching the game from the ESPN suite. It was awesome. The game was exciting right up until the end; we won!

Running in a Sauna

Washington, DC, has been hot and humid. My pace is definitely slower and early morning runs are much better than the afternoon drudgery of commuting home. The following are shots taken en route all over DC. Last week, we had some crazy thunderstorms that wreaked havoc on many trees; check out the damage below on 17th Street NW.

Running at Deep Creek Lake

Running around Deep Creek Lake is not for the faint of heart. There are hills...big hills. The best part was the cool morning temperature; the worst part was running on major roads with very little shoulder.

Rabbits, Rollerblades, and Race

Running everyday, there are plenty of sites that I see and think--that would be great for the blog! Unfortunately, I don't often pause to capture them. Here are a few recent highlights.

I've been seeing plenty of bunnies in our back alley and finally had the camera ready. Check out the guy on rollerblades; he impressed me by an ice-hockey-like stop right in front of me. It was right near the back of the Lincoln Memorial. And, lastly, congratulations to all the runners who participated in the Lawyers Have Heart 10K, June 11, 2016.

Baby Ducklings Choose 17th Over Constitution Avenue

How often do you get to assist little ducklings to cross the road? Not that often. The mother really wanted to cross Constitution Avenue. There was a police car ready to assist and an officer trying to corral them. I was fortunate to come upon them when they were at the corner. The mom got a little flustered and headed out onto 17th. The police officer in the car turned on his lights and blocked off the road. I helped the officer on foot guide them across the road. He had to scoop up one of the ducklings that couldn't hop onto the curb. Cutest thing ever! The officer in the car said, "Are you sure we shouldn't get them across Constitution?" But the mother duck had already led her troops behind some bushes along the Organization of American States.

Rock and Roll in DC

Congratulations to the runners in the DC Rock 'n' Roll marathon and half-marathon. It was nice to just be an observer.

Snow to Summer

Just last week, we had one to three inches during the morning rush hour. This week, it has been in the 80s! This is typical DC--the master of extremes. The pictures include a tree in the neighborhood, the Lincoln Memorial, the World War II Memorial, and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
