Now You See It, Now You Don't!

It started snowing like a winter wonderland this morning and didn't let up until 2pm--big, white fluffy snowflakes. Then, by 5pm, there was absolutely no proof that it ever snowed. OK, there is still some snow on our back deck, but it is amazing that the branches and roads are completely clear.

And...She's Down!

How lame. I did not slip on the ice. I tripped on an uneven sidewalk. Even though DC enjoyed temperatures into the upper 50s yesterday, there is still quite a bit of ice and snow on my route.
This morning, we are supposed to get some rain and rising temperatures ths afternoon into the high 50s again. Yay! Bye-bye snow!

Ice, Ice Baby

OK, I am fine with the cold and even the snow. As an avid city walker and runner, however, I just can't handle the uncleared sidewalks. I do appreciate the shop owners and apartment complexes for doing their part. I think the DC government needs to do a better job of communicating everyone's civic responsibility to keep their driveways and sidewalks clear when it snows. It isn't that hard to do if you keep up with it when it happens. Now, of course, the snow has fallen, melted slightly, and refrozen into a dangerous mess. I went running today, but it would have been so much more enjoyable if I didn't have to worry about breaking my neck as I traversed through Georgetown. Check out some other wintery pictures from my ventures outdoors this past weekend.

Ten Inches of Snow with More on the Way

Wisconsin Avenue
The meteorologists were right on the money with this storm. Around our neighborhood, we had at least 10 inches. It stopped snowing mid-morning and turned into rain, which helped clear the roads and sidewalks. After a brief dry-spell, a wintery mix has started to fall (4pm). No run for me today. Kudos to Bruegger's for being open this morning at 7:30am. I was shocked and extremely grateful. We are supposed to get another one to three inches tonight.

21 Degrees in DC

Pennslyvania Avenue from 22nd Street
I ran in this morning sporting Julia's ski pants, two layers of gloves, and several shirts. I was plenty warm. There is no end in sight for this winter weather. The really hard part is going out during the day for my second cup of coffee, when I'm not all layered up. :) I need to work on that caffeine addiction.

No Run on the Ice

6am shot of ice on tree branches
I wanted to run this morning outside--and was inspired by a woman running down 37th when I was walking to get my Bruegger's coffee--but I am not a fan of ice. No way.
Not sure if my picture captures the beauty and extent of the ice coverage. The roads weren't too bad; however, as usual, the sidewalks were quite messy. Julia's school was delayed two hours; several others were canceled. There were reports of power loss everywhere.

Unfortunately, meetings prevented me from working the entire day from home. The walk to work had a few, slippery close calls. Weather.com is forecasting a high of 52...but it is still hovering below 40 at lunchtime.
